Humans
Humanity continues to be among the dominant species of the surface world.
However, while they once spanned the globe with great kingdoms, they have been reduced to floating raft cities, adrift on the ocean largely at the mercy of the currents.
Built from many boats and ships from different kingdoms, each raft city has become largely self-sufficient, relying heavily on free divers (haenyeo) and fishing boats for food & resources.
Gnolls
While the Hyena-like Gnolls may not seem like an obvious survivor, their pack-like tendency allowed them to band together during the great flood.
In present-day Quas, Gnolls pilot large ships and survive as pirates, pillaging human raft cities & fending off attacks to their secret harbors.
Defending what little land remains and stealing from desperate humans has led to sea-based pack tactics that are hard to beat.
Selkie
Shapeshifters of the land & sea, the Selkie are a vital go-between for the dominant surface & underwater species.
While their role as traders is vital, the Selkie have no territory to call their own, instead living a transitory life between surface rafts, harbors, ships, and the underwater realms of the Merfolk & Cecaelis.
Their role is vital to the survival of others, but many Selkie seek the security of a community that doesn’t exist.
